This magnificent bookstore is located right on Tel Aviv’s busy Allenby Street. Halper’s, founded by American-born Yosef in 1991, now holds about 60,000 different books for sale, in English and Hebrew as well as several additional languages.
The Little Prince is a great spot to both read a good book and get a good coffee. The atmosphere is similar to that of a library – take out a book, find a cozy place to sit, and read quietly. Except here you may also order some pasta or a salad to enjoy while you read!
In Hebrew the name of the store means: “Book and Mug,” a reference to the coffee or tea that used to be served to customers while they browsed. You will no longer get a mug, however the service is still very friendly and there are some amazing old and new English books here.
Entering Holzer is an almost surreal experience: there are books absolutely everywhere. A book-lover would be in danger of getting lost here for many hours. Holzer is also known for being frequented by a variety of people from all walks of life.
The Book Gallery is the largest second-hand bookstore in Israel. It has an impressive selection of books on topics such as Israel, Zionism, Judaism, History, and Philosophy. The Book Gallery features soft music and couches to sit and read on, making the experience complete.
Aside from the books and the amazing atmosphere, each of the bookstores listed also hosts poetry readings, workshops, and other book-related events. Together and separately, the stores create a community of readers in Israel: people who love to read, buy books, and have an interest in relevant events. Feel free to visit these locations and attend the amazing events!
