Recently, Israel has arrived on the international stage as an up-and-coming culinary destination. Although this has always been obvious to the locals, whom of course already know the unique and diverse cuisine that fill the country with savory and delectable dishes. So it comes as no surprise that over the next few weeks some of the most prominent chefs from Europe and the United States will descend upon Tel Aviv’s top restaurants and assume control of their kitchens. Their critically acclaimed menus will be cultivated into special taster menus, that give you an opportunity to savor a variety of their most exquisite achievements. Regretfully, for those that keep kosher there will only be one restaurant, Hayarkon 99 that can offer you this rare culinary adventure.
That’s why we have compiled a list of the best kosher restaurants for you to try out. Especially in Israel where kosher cuisine has been taken to a bold new level.
Located just outside of Jerusalem in Beit Zayit is equal parts romantic-hipster-hippie-elegant and incredible food, always served to perfection. Derech Hagefen, is surrounded by gardens and plants and even has a greenhouse-like seating area. The restaurant boasts a rustic décor with exposed wooden beams and a wood burning stove. This is one of my favorite places to indulge and pamper myself and is also the perfect place for a romantic and fun date or a night out with your friends. Derech Hagefen is not your typical Jerusalem-area restaurant: The menu is innovative, and the ambience is just spectacular. It’s a good place to go for a change of scenery.
Blue Sky is the new kosher “it” restaurant by chef Meir Adoni. If you’re looking for an authentic Israeli culinary experience, without compromising on taste and kosher restrictions. It is located on the roof of the luxurious Carlton Hotel in Tel Aviv, with a 360 view of Tel Aviv overlooking the magnificent beach and urban landscape. The beautiful view transports the patrons to another dimension. If you’re looking to experience a new gastronomic journey that will elevate your senses to new heights, then this is a must on your restaurant to do list.
A unique dining experience with creative dishes, welcoming service and stunning views of the Mediterranean Sea await you at the Olive Tree. Experience a Mediterranean vibe with an interior design inspired by Israel’s unique olive, a crucial ingredient used throughout the Mediterranean cuisine and delicious dishes. Leading Olive Leaf’s kitchen are Israeli chef Shimon Maman and Italian chef Michele Bozzeto; together they you bring you closer to an innovative interpretation of kosher Mediterranean cuisine using only fresh local products and the very best olive oil.
Kimmel BaGilboa is a don’t miss out restaurant in the northern valleys not far from Afula. It is beautifully located on the slopes of Mount Gilboa overlooking the Jezreel Valley, its modern architecture fitting beautifully into the surrounding landscape. It is easily found on the road between Afula and Beit She’an. Famed chef Shaul Ben Aderet opened a branch of his flagship Tel Aviv bistro, Kimmel, on Mount Gilboa, affording you fine view of the Beit She’an, Jordan and Jezreel valleys. They only use local produce, meats and fish to create Provence-style dishes. The food is as fit for a chef’s cuisine as it is exquisite. From the entrees through the main course to the dessert; absolutely delicious. No question this is the first restaurant in town (i.e. the town of Afula, the Jezreel valley and lower Galilee).
Magdalena is quietly redefining Israeli gourmet cuisine and is the first Arab chef restaurant in Israel, recently opened by chef Yosef Zuzu Hana. Discover the glory of Galilean cuisine with an outstanding view. Tucked into a nondescript traffic circle in Tiberius. The restaurant is located in the heart of the “holy triangle” – an area in the north of the Sea of Galilee (Kinneret) that is considered to be one of the most important pilgrimage sites in the world. Surrounded by the impressive scenery of the Sea of Galilee from one side and cliff of Arbel on the other side. “Magdalena has a unique concept,” Hana said. “I make Galilee-style Arabic food, and am influenced by Lebanese and Mediterranean cuisine. I took traditional Galilee-style food and upgraded it in order to make it into contemporary gourmet food. I use mostly local ingredients and cook according to season, but with a fine twist.” If you find yourself in the area, it is an absolute must if you’re looking for a unique culinary journey.
Pago Pago has been leading the culinary scene in Eilat since 1986. This local masterpiece is located at the peaceful marina and offers a taste of the Mediterranean cuisine, with an emphasis on French and Italian influences, with a large variety of fresh fish and seafood dishes. If you’re a wine lover (who isn’t) they offer a wide array of wines from over 40 different wineries. If you want to try out a unique ambient & delighted experience in one of the most beautiful restaurants in Israel, then this must be on your list to try out.
If you know of other Israeli restaurants with impressive vistas, share them in the comments, we’d love to hear about them.
